Fashion Friday & Friday's Fancies: Rock the White!

Looky, looky here...look who's baaaaack?  Yes, your's truly.  A teeny, tiny hiatus of sorts.  Sometimes a girl just needs to step outside of her routine and this girl did just that.

It's Friday!  My favorite day of the week.  And it is time for Fashion Friday and Friday's Fancies.  Today's theme is Rock the White, courtesy of {av} over at {long distance loving}.  And let's not forget the fabulous Kori of Blonde Episodes, and her Fashion Friday linky party.

So, here's the skinny...  It's after Memorial Day weekend so, white is in.  However, let's just say that white and I, just don't get along all the time.  We don't play nice together.  I thought this Carolina Herrera dress was a sassy and chic way to rock the white with big bad bold color.  Don't you agree?

I plan on a low-key weekend.  My highlights will be grocery shopping, laundry, and cleaning.  Fun times, right?  Oh, I can't forget my lunch/dinner date with my step-dad.  And I might even convince him to see a movie with me too!

What are you up to this weekend?  Any fun plans?

Let's Rock the White!

Guest Post: A Creative Studio.

I'm so excited to be guest posting on Heather's blog. Not only is Heather a lovely friend, but she has a lovely blog! My name is Sierra and I'm a blogger at my blog Ocean Dreams.

Since I know how much Heather loves to be creative {and I love her Etsy shop and blog}, I thought I would blog about creative studios! There are so many beautiful creative studios that are available today and if budget wasn't an issue - wouldn't it be fun to creative a craft room that's made especially for you and your creative needs? I think so. Here are some craft rooms that I think are amazing:

This room above is amazing because it mixes contemporary decorating with a bit of French and romantic decor. The modern element is the zebra printed rug. The shabby chic elements look beautiful with the white furnishings and patterned window treatments. I also love the storage space in this room and think it would be an amazing room to work in.

For down the road I think it would be a great idea to implement a craft room near a family room. That way your kids could stay entertained while you work away on a project! Plus, if you want to take a break, a sofa from SofaSofa will be nice to sit down on and relax on in-between projects. I would love this sort of set up when I have kids because it definitely would be ideal.

Another amazing craft room would also look amazing with many cubbies to hold items and multiple chairs for others to sit on and create with you. I would just love to invite my girlfriends over and have them work with me in a large craft room! This room above is perfect. It has tons of storage space and I like how everything is laid out.

So what do you think of all of these creative studios? Aren't they amazing? I would love to creative a room where I could create, read, and just relax. Decorating a room according to your interests is wonderful and maybe someday both you and I will be able to do this. I can't wait!

Thanks for the guest post Heather! :)

Just Breathe.

You have got to be kidding me.  This phrase has slipped through my lips several times lately.

The last few days have been quite...interesting.  Life, never ceases to amaze me.  Ever.

Sometimes, I take a moment and just breathe.  Nothing else whatsoever.  I just focus and breathe.

I stop.  I sit.  I breathe.  For just a moment.

It's a ritual of sorts.

It began many years ago.  At the time, I was working roughly 60 hours a week, 6-days a week, and attending college night classes.  What's a 60 hour work week without one more teeny, tiny responsibility like college, right?  I thought I was invincible.  I thought nothing could touch me.  I thought I could do it all and handle it all.  Well, let's just say life got a little stressful.  You think?  I had a lot on my plate.  A lot.  I was a bit busy.  And to think, I was also going through a divorce and dealing with the aftermath.  But, still I thought I could handle it all as I normally do.  I needed a smidge of help, just a smidge.

While attending night classes I had a team presentation and our topic was about "how do working adults cope with being back in school, how do they adjust and deal with the stress".  You can see where I'm going with this right?  My contribution.  I gave my input to the team of how I deal stressors and they were all like "What? What do you mean you breathe?"

Let's just say I gave a "little" scenario to each member of the team, specific to their life and existing stressors.  Candidly, I made them uncomfortable with the scenario I gave.  You see part of the exercise was sharing with your team each of our fear's and the possible stressors we might have to deal with being back in school.  So, I had a little help already creating the scenario.

Let's set the scene:  I gave each team member there detailed scenario that encompassed their fears and stressors.  I let them ponder it for a few minutes as I stepped out of the room, just outside the door.  My teammates were a bit irritated with me but, it served a point.

When I came back in I asked each of them to do the following:  Stand up, and to sit back down.  Yes, this added more irritation.  Fold hands in their lap.  I told everyone to inhale slowly, deeply and as quietly as possible.  Hold it for at least 15 seconds, longer if possible.  Then to exhale, as quite as possible.  Then repeat.  And repeat again.  So, a total of 3 sets of slow, controlled inhales and exhales.  Three sets.

I asked each of them how they felt and they all looked at each other and then back at me with smirks on their faces.  You see, my breathing technique, made them stop and not think about the irritation I caused.  I know it's just a breathing exercise but, it is slow and controlled.  In essence, the focus put on the act itself reduces the stress level.

If you don't believe me sit here at the computer right now and try it out for yourself.  Here you go:

1) stand up and then sit down
2) fold hands in your lap
3) inhale slowly and deeply
4) hold it for at least 15 seconds
5) exhale slowly and deeply
6) repeat steps 1 through 5 (trust me, this works)
7) repeat steps 1 through 5

See, what did I tell you?  Did it take the edge off the irritation?  You see.  It's amazing what a little breathing will do for you.

It was about 10 years ago that I began this little ritual.  I did just today, yesterday, and last week.  Sometimes, you just need to take a step back and breathe

If you want to, go ahead and make a "tweek" if you need to and make the ritual your own.  I typically don't stand anymore but, on ocassion I just might.  At times you might catch me with my eyes closed.

Remember, it's the little things.  And some things aren't worth getting upset ever.  They just aren't.

Have a wonderful Monday evening!  And don't forget to just breathe.

Fashion Friday & Friday's Fancies - Decked out for the Derby!

WOOHOO, it's finally Friday!  I have waited all week to shout this out!  Yay, so glad it's here.

Thank goodness.  I am so ready for the weekend to begin.  I anticipate a little "me" time this weekend and I am so very much hoping that my writer's block just slips away...  Positive thoughts for a full day of writing on Sunday.

At some point this weekend I will be heading to the movies.  Hmm, any ideas of what I will be seeing...? None other than The Avengers!  Sadly, I won't be seeing it with a really good friend of my mine, Bill.  However, his wife and my bestie, Brenna, will begrudgingly be going in my place.  I know she'll enjoy the movie because of the eye candy, wink wink.  Right?  Right.

Tomorrow, I have a short event for Blondie's Shop.  I say short because it's 10am to 3pm, whereas the last 2 events were over 8 hours each, a very long day indeed.  So, be thinking positive thoughts for the shop!  I'm on a mission to spread the word about my note cards + invites + announcements.

Today's the day.  My favorite day of the week, Fashion Friday and Friday's Fancies.  We have a fabulous theme courtesy of Alison over at {long distance loving}, Decked out for the Derby!  Obviously, in honor of the Kentucky Derby tomorrow.

My pick to with the Kentucky Derby is Liaison for the win.  It's 50-1 odds but, I'm going with my choice anyway.  And Liaison is such a beautiful horse don't you think?  *Fingers crossed* on my pick!  Since I like a good wager...who is your pick for the win tomorrow?

Alrighty then, let's move on to the snazzy little number I'm wearing to the Kentucky Derby.  I was aiming for the 3 "C's"...chic, comfortable, colorful...  And I think I nailed it?  You tell me.
I chose a simple orange Balenciaga dress.  Remember I've been working on stepping outside of the "neutral" girl box by adding more color.  Baby steps.  I did however, stay true to my neutral girl ways and choose neutral coordinating accessories.  Because of course, I needed to leave room for the fabulous derby hat!  Actually, I chose a fascinator and it's super comfortable and lightweight because it's a headband well, sort of.  You get the jest, right?  Makeup: my standard smokey eye with a twist...va-va-voom lashes.  The lip will neutral with a hint of sparkle.  See, I just can't get away from the neutral look.  Slowly but, surely I will feel absolutely comfortable stepping outside that box.

Ladies, have a fabulous Friday and don't forget to participate in the linky parties.  You can visit my good friend, Kori over at Blonde Episodes for Fashion Friday or Alison over at {long distance loving} for Friday's Fancies - Decked out for the Derby!

By the way, don't forgot to tell me who your picking to win the derby tomorrow...  Click here to choose your horse.  Remember we have a wager here and let me tell you...I am liking my 50-1 odds.  COME ON LIAISON!!!!

Decked out for the derby with ...this & that...

I'm stuck!

Sometimes this happens.  I sit in front of the computer and I just sit here.  Seriously, I sit here and stare at the screen.  Seriously, I do.  At times I just walk away from my computer.  I close the lab top and walk away.  Yes, it's true.  And sometimes I do alternative things on the Internet.  Ummm, you know what those are...  Facebook.  Twitter.  Email.  Read and comment on my favorite blogs.  The usual, right?!  Right.  I entertain myself if you will.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't that I dont' have anything to say, I do.  I have a lot to say.

I am...ummm, stuck!

Oh my goodness.  Am I really?

I think I am.  Ugh.  This isn't good.  Nope, it really isn't.

The funny part is that I have plenty of ideas written down on my trusty yellow legal pad or my "idea" notebook.  Mind you, I typically carry these both with me at all times.  Well, just about.

Lately, I've been pondering "why" I haven't been able to write.  And why, I can't write regularly?  So, I did a little research and found a few interesting tidbits.  Also, I headed over to my go-to writing blog, The Writerly Life, for inspiration, an explanation of sorts and a bit of direction.

So, this is what I came up with after reviewing the research.

I am afraid.  I over think.  I worry.  I stress.  I revise.  I proofread.  I revise again.

I am consumed with what the reader (you) will think.  Will you like it, hate it, love it?  Will you critique me?  Eeeek!  This is horrible.  I am admitting my deepest, darkest fears on ...this & that...

Candidly, I think I might write too much.  I mean share too much of me or someone else close to me.  Reveal too many details.  What if I do and you don't like it?  Or worse, someone in my personal life reads it and is offended.  Hmmm...?  See, I told you I overthink this.  However, this here article, sums up my little problem in it's entirety and gave me quite the ah-ha moment.  Yes, it really did.  Go ahead and take a peek and tell me what you think, it's awesome!

I've decided to... set a weekly writing goalstep away from my writing or re-direct myself.  And candidly, I just need to get over it, all of it, and just write!  Yep, just write.

And last but not least, I will remember that I am not the only one out there who this happens to.  All writer's experience this.  Do you?  What do you when your stuck?
